SOME NOTES FOR ADJUNCT  ASTRONOMY TECHNICIANS 

 

PLEASE FOLLOW THE EQUIPMENT AND NOTES TO TEACHERS AND TECHNICIANS GUIDE FOUND IN THE BACK OF THE LAB MANUAL WITH THE LATEST VERSION ON THIS WEBSITE  FOR THE COURSE YOU ARE INVOLVED WITH. 

In General, prepare the equipment for the experiment to be done, assist the students in using the equipment, ensure that safety measures are being followed, put back the equipment and make sure the lab is clean after the class has ended.

NOTE: some exercises require demonstration equipment to be set up..

If you have any ideas about demonstrations  for an exercise please let Prof Robbins Know.

NOTE: IN GENERAL TECHNICIANS ARE PART OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF AND YOU ARE EXPECTED TO  KNOW THE LABS VERY WELL AND TO ASSIST THE TEACHER  IF DESIRED IN ANSWERING BASIC QUESTION FOR THE STUDENTS ( IF YOU  DON'T KNOW AN ANSWER  THEN PLEASE REFER THEM TO THE TEACHER). 

HENCE: UNLESS THE INSTRUCTOR TELLS YOU OTHERWISE WE EXPECT YOU NOT TO HANG OUT IN THE PREP ROOM BUT BE AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN THE LABORATORY EXERCISE.

You are paid for three hours for each 2 hr class and are required to show up 1/2 before and leave 1/2 hour after for setup and breakdown  time.  Be sure the lab is in decent shape for the next class and if you know the next class is doing (refer to the laboartory schedule book)  the same exercise you just did then you can leave the equipment for that class if not then put the material away. 

A laboratory schedule book will be on workbench in the preparation room be sure to jot down what the instructor intends to do for the next class. 

MAIL BOX; SET UP A MAIL BOX IN THE DEPARTMENT OFFICE IN 1N OR 4N  SINCE IMPORTANT SCHOOL MAIL WILL BE SENT TO YOU. 

.IF SOMETHING IS BROKEN OR IN NEED OF TLC PLEASE FIX IT IF POSSIBLE, IF NOT PLACE ON SHELF IN LAB MARKED FOR REPAIRS WITH A NOTE ABOUT THE PROBLEM  AND  CONTACT PROF ROBBINS OR NEW MAIN ASTRONOMY TECHNICIAN ABOUT THE PROBLEM
