Saturday 28th Yesterday afternoon Another gale came on from the northeast. It blew most terrific- cally. You may 5 idea of the gale when I tell you that it drove us along, at the rate of nine knots an hour, under close reefed topsails, wh[ic]h is the smallest sail that can be 10 put on the ship. {I}t is next to running under bare poles.120 [End of Page 76]
