Friday 27th Again we have a beautiful morning, but then it is calm and the Augusta not 5 power than her sails of course we cannot expect to move. Every day we see little land birds flying about. When they come on deck we catch them 10 but they do not live with us. They have all been blown off the land with storms. We are getting soft bread every day now to breakfast [and] tea. {T}he steward 15 bakes flour soda scones.117 I do not think that for the last 3 weeks half a dozen biscuits118 have been eaten in the cabin. {W}e killed two pigs since we left 20 the half of each of wh[ic]h the < steerage > passengers got{.} I took a little fresh pork one day [and] was the worse of it, so I took no [End of Page 74]
