Saturday Oct. 21st < Lightning > Today I am twenty three years [and] the month old. Well I thought that ere this I w[oul]d have been in New York engaged in the lottery of 5 life, but providence has directed it otherwise. Still Eliza, I dare not re- pine it's all for the best. I promised to give you as many hints as possible for your guidance when preparing for 10 your voyage. Well then, Love, be sure you bring with you a quart bottle of Raspberry vinegar to mix in the water.103 {T}he water we are getting now has a very bad taste. I put in a little 15 common vinegar the bad taste the same as Rasp- berry vinegar w[oul]d do. {T}ake also a little vial of sweet oil, to rub any steel 20 things that may with the salt water. Be sure to pack away well any steel ar- ticles that you will not be using. [End of Page 65]
