One of the harness casks80 was broke loose and washed over the mate bruising him a good deal [and] broke his left arm just 5 above the elbows. I could scarcely get out of my berth for the water [and] wreck which was washed into it. The sea broke tho[ugh] where part of the men 10 slept81 ere it reached me, [and] it carried everything before it. My arms [and] legs are all from the stuff out of the mens' house82 coming 15 in contact with me when attempting to get out, but they are better now. You may mi imagine what a sea struck us when it left three feet of 20 water in the hold. Now this water could only get in at a part of the main hatch under- neath the long boat, as the other [End of Page 46b]
