I do not know how it was, but I felt
the blessings of the married life more at
these times than I did when the weather
was fine. You were always dressed
5      so tidyly tidily, and so comfortably.
Oh how I loved thee in the tartan
dress! {Y}ou appeared so warm and
bien like, I could not but love
        you. There was nothing pleased
10    me more than to see you neatly
dressed. Oh Beloved Eliza would to God
you will remain true to me [and] that
ere twelve months passes over our
heads you will be on your way
15    to live with me. Oh lassie Dear
how happy one will be then.
There is only one fear that rankles
[and] lacerates my soul, it is that
of your parents going to Australia
20    next year.65 [B]ut Love if such is
the case, if they intend leaving
        Glasgow before twelve months, why
then Love you must just come to me
