Periodicals Services

CSI Library’s Periodicals Services is responsible for receiving, processing, shelving and maintaining the library’s periodicals collection, which includes magazines, journals and newspapers. Its goal is to provide faculty and students with easy and efficient access to these materials. Periodicals staff assist patrons locating specific titles in the collection and using microfilm machines in the library’s Business Center.

Periodicals Collection

The College of Staten Island Library has a collection of over 3,000 periodical titles in print and microform, with about 500 current subscriptions. In addition, the library provides online access to over 40,000 periodical titles. Search the Serials Solution’s Electronic and Print Journals Database to find out if the library owns a specific journal, magazine or newspaper. Detailed bibliographical and holdings information can be obtained by searching CUNY+plus Catalog.

Use and Locations of Print Periodicals:

CSI Library’s print periodicals are to be used in the library only. They cannot be checked out. Majority of our periodicals are located on the 3rd floor of the library, including a separate Nursing and Allied Health section and a Newspaper section. The periodicals are arranged alphabetically by title. A selective number of current periodicals are on display on the 2nd floor of the library. Also located on the 2nd floor are the print Indexes and Abstracts, and the Library and Information Science journals.

Periodicals in Microform

CSI Library holds many periodical titles in microfilm/microfiche formats. Microform readers/printers are housed in the Business Center located in 1L-215, 2nd floor of the library. Staff are available to help patrons retrieve, mount, and print articles in microfilm/fiche. Printing is free of charge.
