Mikhael Antone (b.1975) uses the mediums of video, photography and painting to explore of the subconscious realities of experience and activate rituals of self transformation.
Her unique approach starts with paintings and photos of characters extracted from her own dreams, art and mythology. These characters evolve thru performance juxtaposed with documentary video.
These documentations and performances are edited into a video narrative that integrates a subconscious reality within the confines of daily life as it already exists. This process has developed as a creative ritual for to activate a new transformative space.
In the Vigil, the idea is to create a sense of watching over death. The use of documentary style footage of the artist's sick mother mixed with dark and foreboding characters allude to the apprehension one feels about mortality and explores how fear can translate into everyday living.
Although personal, Mikhael's works focus on universal emotional experiences allowing the viewer to feel in their own way.
