Craig Manister, Higher Education Assistant and Adjunct Assistant Professor

Biography / Academic Interests:

Craig Manister is a painter who has been working and exhibiting since the 1970's. He is currently represented by the Painting Center. Paintings have been exhibited in the National Academy Museum, Elizabeth Harris Gallery, Beijing Art Institute, Staten Island Museum, Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, New York Studio School and Nielsen Gallery in Boston. He was included in After the Fall: a Survey of Abstract Painting Since1970, an exhibition and catalog, curated by Lily Wei, and held at the Newhouse Center in 1996.

Also an independent curator Craig Manister has recently worked on large exhibitions of artists such as Sylvia Sleigh and Marie Roberts, both reviewed in the New York Times, and Icelandic artist Gudjon Bjarnason, reviewed in Art in America.

A Higher Education Assistant and, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Performing and Creative Arts Department, Craig Manister is Gallery Director, Supervisor of Art Studios and Image Library Coordinator.

Craig Manister earned a BA, at Richmond College in 1974 and spent the next two years studying at the New York Studio School. He followed with an MFA from Brooklyn College and a Professional Certificate in Appraisal Studies of Fine and Decorative Art from New York University. He lives and works on Staten Island. He has taught at the College of Staten Island since 1998.
