  1. What is Inter-Library Loan (ILL)? (Back to Top)

    Inter-Library Loan is a service through which patrons may request materials in print and audio-visual items not owned by The College of Staten Island Library or Any other CUNY Library.


  2. Who Can Use ILL? (Back to Top)

    All College of Staten Island faculty, staff and students may place ILL requests.


  3. What Types of Materials are Available? (Back to Top)

    The ILL Department will attempt to borrow articles, books and other material you may require. Some items are more difficult to borrow and thus take longer to arrive. These include current yearbooks, rare materials, bound journal volumes, videotapes, DVDs or CDs, foreign theses and dissertations, and microprint. Not all items are available and many institutions require fees for lending or do not lend or copy rare materials and Full Journal Issues. If you would like further assistance before placing your request, please contact the ILL office.


  4. Is There a Charge for ILL? (Back to Top)

    Inter-Library Loan Document Delivery Services are provided to CSI FACULTY, STAFF, and STUDENTS only, usually without any costs from participating institutions. Occassionally, times, there may be a fee from non-participating institutions that charge for Inter-Library Loan and Document Delivery Services. When submitting your request please select if you are willing to pay for the items or you would only like the item if it is available free to you.


  5. How Do I Request an Item Through ILL? (Back to Top)

    Before you request an item through ILL:

    1. Make sure the item is not is not already owned by the College of Staten Island
    2. Make sure it is not available through any other CUNY libraries by checking the CUNY+ Catalog.

    Once you have determined that the item is not available there are two methods to request items from ILL:

    1. Submit a request to the ILL Office
    2. Submit a request directly from WorldCat

  6. How Long Does it Take? (Back to Top)

    Most loan requests are filled within 5-10 business days; photocopies generally arrive within one week. Other materials may take longer, depending on the location of the supplying library and method of delivery used. Articles may be delivered via e-mail.


  7. How Long Can I Keep the Material? (Back to Top)

    Photocopies, unless otherwise noted, are yours to keep. Loans of books and other materials may generally be kept for three (3) weeks unless otherwise noted on the book strap. If you need to use the material longer, please contact the ILL Office to inquire about the possibility of renewing the item.


  8. Where Do I Pick Up My Materials? (Back to Top)

    Whenever possible, photocopies are delivered through inter-office mail for faculty and staff or through US mail for students. Faculty and staff also receive books through Inter-Office Mail whenever possible. However, students must pick up books form the ILL Office.

    When you receive an email notification informing you that your item is available for pick up, then you may pick up your materials from the Ill Office during normal office hours (8:30am-4:40pm M-F). If you are unable to pick your materials up during normal office hours, the materials will be placed on the podium just outside the Inter-Library Loan Office door and can be picked up anytime the library is open.
