Faculty/Staff Positions

Reference Librarian - Part-time

The College of Staten Island, a senior college of the City University of New York, seeks a daytime (afternoons and/or evenings) adjunct reference librarian for 15-20 hours per week during the Spring 2010 semester, and for anticipated additional hours in Summer 2010. The librarian must have a strong public service orientation and an ability to respond to the reference needs of both students and faculty.

Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive reference, research, and referral service in a team based, client centered environment. Teach and assist users in identifying, locating, and interpreting sources of information, irrespective of format. Assist with Library projects, assignments, and initiatives as designated.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program. Demonstrated experience in a library reference setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Salary:
Dependent on qualifications; begins at $38.91 per hour.

January 28, 2010

Library Internships

The College of Staten Island Library invites internship applications from library school students interested in pursuing a career in academic libraries. All internships are unpaid one-semester appointments.

Qualified applicants must:

  1. Be currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited library and information science graduate program
  2. Have a minimum of 12 or more credits
  3. Commit to a one-semester contract appointment

These internships are intended to provide experience to students interested in exploring a career in academic libraries, as well as provide networking opportunities. Students will have the opportunity to work closely with professional librarians. They will gain valuable practical experience as well as strong information management skills at the end of the internship.

The successful candidate(s) will assume a variety of assignments appropriate for an internship appointment. Interns will assist staff with special projects in Cataloging, Access Services, Collection Development, Library Instruction, and/or Archives and Special Collections.

Requirements

Ability to demonstrate initiative. Effective interpersonal relations and communications skills. Adaptable. Well-organized. Experience with Windows environment and HTML preferred.

Hours

10 –15 hrs/wk
