Spring 1997
Answer the question below in a reflective, informal, but documented, essay of three to five pages.
Be sure to support your argument with concrete examples from the films and in-class discussion.
For the last part of the question, you may use the readings in the Scott book to represent feminist
theory.
Due in class April 16.
- Using the films Imitation of Life and Working Girl, discuss the formation of women's identities and the role that identities other than gender play in shaping women's sense of who they are. How do these films represent the role that categories of racial and class identities play in shaping the identities of women? How has feminist theory addressed the interaction of race, class, and gender in the experiences of women?
