THE SWAN HOTEL, unknown photographer. Taken circa 1893. The hotel was built circa 1792 and was located on Richmond Terrace in Staten Island's New Brighton area. Records show that on July 4th, 1827, members of Staten Island's Black community celebrated the abolition of slavery in New York State at this hotel.
