CUNY START
What is CUNY Start?
CUNY Start at the College of Staten Island is a low-cost, intensive program for college bound high school and GED graduates needing academic preparation in math, writing and reading. In addition, participants receive academic advisement and develop skills to help them succeed in college.
The program which costs only $75 per semester, including all books and materials, allows participants to save their financial aid for credit courses.

- Prepare for credit courses and to retake placement tests.
- Receive strong academic advisement to help you plan for your educational future.
Who Is Eligible for CUNY Start?
- Students who have been accepted to the College of Staten Island and need to increase their proficiency in academic reading and/or writing and math before starting credit classes.
- Students who can demonstrate a commitment to an intensive academic schedule.
When are classes?
Spring Semester 2012:
February – July, Monday – Friday, 9:30am – 3:00pm 25 hours a week
Why enroll in CUNY START?
- Less time spent in remedial classes.
- 2 opportunities to retake placement exams.
- $75 per semester, including all books and materials.*
*You do not use financial aid to attend CUNY Start, allowing more of your financial aid to be used for credit courses.
What happens at the Information Session?
- You will learn more about the program, how to apply and have an opportunity to meet with CUNY Start staff.
