Borrowing
Students, faculty, and staff displaying a valid CUNY ID card equipped with a library barcode can check out circulating library materials at the Circulation Desk on the first floor. A valid CUNY ID card entitles the card holder to entry and borrowing privileges at all CUNY college libraries. CUNY library users may return CUNY library books to any of the CUNY college libraries.
ID cards are issued by the Office of Public Safety. In order to check out library materials, access your library account, or use course reserves, your college ID must be equipped with a library barcode. Library barcodes can be obtained at the Circulation Desk.
Circulating materials refer to any item in the library catalog marked "Regular Loan". Items marked "Non-circulating", such as reference books, or "Reserve Loan", such as course reserves, can only be used inside the library and cannot circulate outside the library.
Course Reserves
Faculty may request that materials used in their courses, such as textbooks, articles, and CD-ROMs, be placed on Reserve and restricted to in-library use to ensure that their students have access to these resources. Faculty are encouraged to place materials on Reserve prior to the beginning of the semester in which they will be required.
Students with a valid CUNY ID may borrow reserve items for use inside the library for a two-hour period. Reserve items do not circulate outside the library. To borrow a reserve item, bring the call number to the Circulation Desk. To obtain the call number of a reserve item, use the Course Reserves Search or see a Reference librarian for assistance.
My Account
Library users can manage their account online via CUNY+, the library's online catalog. From CUNY+, click on "My Account" and login with your library barcode. "My Account" allows you to:
- Renew books online
- Request books from other CUNY campuses (learn how)
- Recall books that are currently checked out
- Check the status of any of your loans and requests

Library Fines
The CSI Library charges fines for lost, damaged, and overdue materials. Students who have outstanding library fines will have a Bursar stop placed on their account. Bursar stops can only be removed after the fine is paid in person at the Bursar's Office (2A-105). Questions regarding library fines should be directed to the library's Circulation Desk (718.982.4011).
