Biographical Sketch

Oscar L. Wallace was born in Argentina. As a teenager, he studied at a conservatory in Buenos Aires, learning piano, organ, accordion, melodic, guitar, trumpet, and ukulele. He joined the Argentinean Merchant Marines and worked on his musical career when he was not at sea. Wallace moved to the United States in 1960; he joined the United States Merchant Marines and furthered his musical career by composing. One of his well-known works was entitled “Jackie,” and was dedicated to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. He left the Merchant Marines in 1977 and retired to Staten Island, where he took classes at the College of Staten Island and sang at venues around the island, including the Holiday Inn in Graniteville, Staten Island.
