About the Library
The Department of the Library acquires, organizes, and preserves scholarly materials in a variety of formats consistent with the college's curriculum. The College of Staten Island, a senior college of the City University of New York, offers exceptional opportunities to more than 12,000 students. Programs in the liberal arts and sciences and professional studies lead to bachelor's and associate's degrees. Master's degrees are awarded in selected fields of study. Doctoral degrees are awarded in conjunction with the Graduate Center of CUNY.
The Library is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, enabling librarians to retrieve non-traditional formats of information from beyond the walls of the building through online, satellite, and fiber-optic technology. The Library's Media Services provides pedagogical multimedia materials to distant classrooms and laboratories by means of the campus fiber-optic network. The Center for Excellence in Learning Technologies, also situated in the Library, provides a technology-enriched environment that enables faculty to learn about new and emerging technologies. The Center helps to create multimedia materials that enhance or supplement instruction to support students in or beyond class-time contact. The newest unit in the Library, the Archives and Special Collections Department, inaugurated in October 2000, contains the papers of Senator John Marchi and former Assemblywoman Elizabeth Connelly. The Special Collections also include resources on Staten Island history, the Fresh Kills Landfill, and the works of William Faulkner, Theodora DuBois, and Paul Zindel.
